Onions for Ester
More accurately, poppy seeds and onions gussy up this Purim ring. The final shape is meant to symbolize Queen Ester's crown. The fun begins with two 30" strands... The filling is minced onion, poppy seeds and buttah. The roll up is no mean feat. If the buttah gets on the upper edge, it can be a bitch to seal. Twist the strands, join the ends and poof! I love the way these challahs look! The onions and poppy seeds provide a nice contrast to the slightly sweet dough.
